For morning and evening walks, you don’t have to go far. The nature reserve of the High Fens is nearby.
For a bike ride, too, you start from the cottage. The Vennbahn is just around the corner. The Vennbahn is ideal for recreational cyclists, away from all car traffic and in the middle of nature along old railway lines.
Walking and cycling
The High Fens is a true paradise for hikers and cyclists/mountain bikers. Many routes are available. In the tourist office of Malmedy you can find extensive hiking and cycling maps. In the gîte there are some at your disposal.
If you cannot bring your own bikes, you can rent one from AT Bike. Even electric mountain bikes can be hired.
Rail biking is also possible.
Or how about a ride on the E-scoot?
Autumn: focus on hunting
In autumn, there is a lot to do in the forest.
The mushrooms sprout from the ground and the rutting season begins. The belling of the deer is impressive to hear.
But then it is hunting season, which runs mainly from September to December. During this period, access to some forests may be prohibited. It is indicated on which days access is prohibited due to hunting. But rest assured, this is not in all forests at the same time, so still cycling and hiking opportunities abound.
Winter fun
Winter sports enthusiasts will be in their element in the High Fens: skiing, cross-country skiing, … Put on your thick coat.
Worth visiting
There is plenty to see. The Reinhardstein castle, the Gileppe dam, …
The German border is a stone’s throw away, so why not visit Monschau?

On the market square in Malmedy there are numerous restaurants, something for everyone, from pizzeria to grill.
Fancy some chips? Then you don’t have to drive far, Au P’tit Creux is just a few streets away.
You can also have a pleasant meal at Peak Beer, just a few kilometres from the cottage. This is the brewery of the local beer. They also have a restaurant where you can go for a tasty snack using only local products.
If you like to dine out, we can also recommend nearby La Menuiserie. Reservations are required.
Shopping
Eating in the holiday house is of course also possible. From a hearty breakfast to start the day to a tasty home-cooked meal. The equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare a delicious meal.
